- There are so many different diets out there and most of them are very unhealthy. Find one that you can stick to that suits your lifestyle and budget. Avoid diets where all you have are one type of food such as cabbage soup diets or liquid diets. These diets are extremely dangerous and will absolutely kill your metabolism.

- Don't sign up for any program unless you feel prepared to stick with it for the long haul. You'll only disappoint yourself. Make sure you're mentally prepared to stick to the program. If you have trigger foods such as chocolate or sweets, get rid of them before you begin the program.

- Don't expect to lose weight unless you're prepared to do some simple exercises, such as walking. Start off slowly at whatever you can comfortably do, even if it's only 15 minutes. Then work your way up slowly to 45 minutes. You'll notice a huge difference in how you feel after only the first week.

Make sure that you're losing weight for yourself and not for anyone else. Take it one day at a time and reward yourself regularly with non-food treats such as new clothes.
